Literacy Narrative Activity

Lesson by Andrew Moss

Description (for Instructors)

In this activity, students read, deconstruct, and critically analyze a literacy narrative in preparation for the Literacy Narrative they will submit as part of their Onboarding Process Assignment. By identifying and evaluating fundamental elements of an existing literacy narrative—i.e., its structure, purpose, focus, effectiveness/ineffectiveness—students will 1.) develop familiarity with their future Literacy Narrative assignment, 2.) enhance their rhetorical analytic evaluative skill, and 3.) build their understanding of “genre.”

This activity asks students to upload their analytical notes and Literacy Narrative outline to a submission tool on the Course Management System (CMS) of your choosing. However, you may also choose to format this activity as an in-class free-write and discussion.
