PPW AI Survey Findings (Cassidy Short)
- This short presentation offers findings from a Fall 2024 student survey on generative AI the writing classroom. The insights reveal student perspectives on AI, AI usage patterns, and classroom policy preferences.
AI vs Human Simplification Activity (Gail Hapke)
- In this group activity, students revise a paragraph about the Blind Pig and vote on anonymous submissions, including a surprise version written by ChatGPT. The exercise encourages discussion on what makes writing engaging and the affordances and constraints of AI programs.
Ethics of AI Report (Lily Dawn)
- The point of this assignment is to experiment with AI while at the same time researching a major ethical issue that comes with using AI. Students consider various ethical drawbacks of using AI and hopefully maintain that awareness going forward to make more informed decisions on how they use AI in their everyday lives.
Ethical Alternatives to AI Assignments (Kay Emmert)
- This series of assignments, originally designed for BTW 199: ATLAS Internship Success, guides students in using AI at various stages of the writing process, including brainstorming and revision. The activities promote critical reflection on the affordances, limitations, and ethical implications of AI. Each assignment also offers an alternative option for students who have ethical concerns about using generative AI.
