
BTW 199: Writing for Internship Success
Course Description
This course, designed to complement a concurrent internship, focuses on cultivating essential workplace writing, communication, and professionalization skills to support students’ professional growth and career readiness. Through activities and assignments, students will learn to set and achieve developmental goals, craft effective workplace communications, propose projects, provide meaningful updates, and present progress with confidence. Emphasizing proactive strategies and customized approaches, this course prepares students to excel in professional environments by enhancing their ability to adapt, articulate ideas, and contribute effectively to workplace success. This course is open to bachelor’s degree seeking students who have secured an internship.
This 8-week course takes place in the first half of each semester and must be completed in the term in which the professional experience is completed.
Student Learning Outcomes
- Audience: Compose effective written and/or multimodal communication materials adapted to particular technical and non-technical audiences.
- Desired Outcome: Adapt communication materials and strategies to achieve specific outcomes responsive to particular contexts and appropriate conventions.
- Goals: Define personal skills, needs, and ambitions to generate developmental goals and pursue targeted employment opportunities, and reflect on the progress towards those goals.
