BTW 263: Writing in the Disciplines
BTW 263: Writing in the Disciplines is a special topics rubric for which PPW instructors may propose an originally designed course. Teaching BTW 263 provides an opportunity for instructors to not only branch out from the general coverage of BTW 250 but to draw on their own personal or professional interests.
Examples of past BTW 263 courses include:
- Game Writing and Design
- Grant Writing,
- Global Business Communication,
- Ethical Communication & Crisis Management,
- Feminist Ethics & Professional Communication,
- Writing for Social Justice,
- and Social Media and Viral Marketing.
Eligibility
Anyone, whether Specialized Faculty or Graduate Employee, who has taught for the program in the past is eligible to propose a course. If your proposal is accepted and sufficient students enroll, your course proposal will be viewed as a commitment to teach the class proposed.
Course Proposal Process
The PPW typically issues a call for new BTW 263 course proposals once the current BTW 263 has been renumbered as a recurring course. Instructors are also welcome to submit proposals to the current PPW director at any time.
If you are interested in proposing a BTW 263 course, email the PPW director with the following details:
- Course title
- Brief course description
- Suggested major assignments
Approval Criteria
Approval of a BTW 263 course proposal will be based on three primary criteria.
- How well your course might fit into the program’s current course offerings and course offerings in other departments
- The course’s potential to fulfill advanced composition and general education requirements
- The strength of its unique appeal to students, as all courses are dependent on making enrollment
