
BTW 360: Writing for Digital Media
Course Description
In BTW 360, Students will build a professional online web presence and familiarize themselves with social media management. Explores how principles of effective composition and writing as a process interact with different, increasingly popular digital media. In addition to hands-on activities and practice with digital design and web development techniques, students will create social media campaigns, write reports that visualize data, and analyze the diverse audiences that make up the internet.
This is not a coding class nor is it meant to teach you the fine art of web-design or any particular software. Our main objective is to explore how principles of effective composition and writing as a practice interact with different, increasingly popular media.
Student Learning Outcomes
After completing BTW 360, students will be able to:
- Compose and present multimodal arguments across media and support said arguments with evidence, analysis, and sophisticated attention to audience, technology, design, and/or material.
- Understand how writing technologies are mobilized across multiple media and how the affordances of writing depend on said media.
- Thoughtfully engage with, analyze, and contest theories of media, communication, composition, rhetoric, literacy, and design.
- Clearly explain, defend, and reflect upon your rhetorical decisions, processes, and products with regard to media and technology.
- Revise your multimodal work in response to new ideas as well as peer and instructor feedback.
